Physical Education at Charlotte Central School is designed to help students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade strive to meet National Standards that will ensure they are physically educated. The CSSU Physical Education Framework is based on the National Standards for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE) Standards and is aligned with the Vermont Grade Expectations.

The goal of the K-2 program is to build the attitude, skills and knowledge needed for lifelong physical fitness and sportsmanship. During their three years in the program, students learn basic gymnastics and tumbling skills, dance and creative movement, ball skills, snow shoeing, international games and dances, running games, fitness activities, and how to use a variety of manipulatives. Learning methods include: problem-solving, guided discovery, skills practice, performance and use of skills in activities. Assessment is primarily by teacher observation of practice, performance and discussion; peer and self-assessment are introduced and used when appropriate. Using as building blocks the basic skills that students have acquired in grades K-2, students in grades 3-8 begin to combine skills and take part in progressively more complex activities. Opportunities are provided for students to experience success, achievement, mastery, responsibility and goal setting. Through active participation in a variety of activities, the goal is to help all students become physically educated. Assessment is individual and focused on growth in both physical skills and understanding of concepts. A variety of scoring guides are used comparing pre and post activity skill levels. Students receive a report card twice a year. Mr. Bissonnette, Mrs. Cluff and Mrs. Davis are available to students and parents throughout the year.  Research shows that parent attitudes about and involvement in physical activities influence their children. Therefore, enjoyment of and success in physical education is a team effort.
