Program Description

School Counseling Program Services Description

 
Counseling
Individual
-        Referrals made by staff members, parents and students at their own request
-        Immediate conflict resolution
 
Group Counseling/Education
-        Classroom teaching; for example: problem solving, diversity, Internet safety
-        Small groups on select topics; for example: social skills, friendship
-        Students with a common concern; for example: changing families, moving to a new area, dealing with loss
-        Co-facilitate CCS Leadership Group: coordinate community outreach activities, participate in drug and alcohol prevention education, attend Connecting Youth retreats
 
Consultation
Staff
-        Assist teachers with individual or group concerns
-        Attend parent-teacher-student conferences
-        Coordinate assistance for individual student programs including CVU Buddy Program, cross-grade tutoring partnerships
-        Attend Kidtalk, EST, IEP, team, 504 meetings, team open houses
-        Provide resources to staff members on topics of interest
-        Conduct individual and group observations
-        Participate in class placement process
-        Assist teachers with short-term classroom supervision
-        Consult with school nurse, behavior specialist and SAP counselor
-        Mentor new staff members
 
Parent
-        Assist in understanding child development and individual differences
-        Respond to interests or concerns initiated by parents
-        Participate in parent-student-teacher conferences to assist in plan for student, or for informing parent of student concerns
-        Hold telephone conferences to discuss pertinent information, seek support, or inform parent of student progress
-        Provide resources for parenting and offer opportunities for parent education
 
Administration
-        Meet with principal and assistant principal regarding student and program
concerns
-     Meet with new staff to address issues of confidentiality and Child Protection 
      Team
-        Participate in kindergarten registration process
-        Serve as liaison between eighth grade and high school: assist students and parents with registration forms, participate in the transition process, provide information for alternative school choices
-        Complete documentation of Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT) forms
-        Oversee distribution of scholarships
-        Provide information for summer opportunities
-        Assist with coordination of Swisher Survey and Youth Risk Behavior Survey
 
Coordination
-        Coordinate and facilitate Charlotte Central Support Team
-        Member Child Protection Team
-        Member of Crisis Management Team
-        Coordinate and co-direct CCS Mentoring Program
-        Member of 4C’s: Communication, Collaboration, Coordination and Clarification
-        Member of CCS committees: Media Literacy, Staff Interviews, Culture, Program Council
-        Member of CSSU committees: Connecting Youth, Standards/Curriculum, 360 Evaluation, Wellness
-        Arrange and follow-up referrals to outside sources for counseling or psychological services
-        Coordinate with CSSU staff: school psychologist, peer prevention coordinator, Connecting Youth coordinator
-        Participate in CSSU School Counselor meetings
 
 
Information Management
-        Update listing of related community resources
-        Maintain inventory of school counseling/education materials for staff and parent use
-        Provide resources for students on topics of interest
 
 
Program Management
-        Collaborate as school counseling team
-        Maintain communication with parents through school newsletter and through correspondence regarding classes and small groups
-        Request staff and parent input
-        Request input of student groups
-        Provide consultation and supervision for school counseling interns
-        Update School Counseling Program Services Description
 
 
Professional Development
Documentation
-        Maintain School Counselor Licensure
-        Participate in CSSU Teacher Evaluation Process
-        Maintain Individual Professional Development Plan
